SBSNE Family Day rescheduled

On Aug. 25, there will be a Family Day Fundraiser to benefit SBSNE. Inc Nutrition Support Program at Oakland Beach in Warwick. Hosted by Nicole White of Cranston and the President of the Short Bowel Syndrome Foundation for Children of New England, Inc., the event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. The event was postponed due to rain.

The Family Fun Day Fundraiser will include a car show, a D.J., kids’ activities, food, vendors, and raffles. They are still actively searching for volunteers and vendors for the event.

Short bowel syndrome is a group of problems related to poor absorption of nutrients. Short bowel syndrome typically occurs in people who have had at least half of their small intestine removed and sometimes all or part of their large intestine removed significant damage of the small intestine poor motility, or movement, inside the intestines. Short bowel syndrome may be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on how well the small intestine is working.

Many who are diagnosed with SBS, also have feeding tubes, depend on special formulas and drinks, and blends of real food to sustain because their bodies need the extra help to maintain their nutrition and ultimately, stay out of the hospital.

The fundraiser will consist of a Car Cruise hosted by Cruisin Bruce. There will also be family/kid friendly activities such as face painting, prizes, including a workshop put on by Endless Beautiful; creativity with art, food, and more.

Antique Fire Truck Show

On Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be an Antique Fire Truck Show, sponsored by the RI Antique Fire Apparatus Society, at Johnston Memorial Park, located at 1583 Hartford Ave. Admission is free, yet they will be collecting unwrapped toys to be distributed to children in need during the holidays. There will be burgers, hot dogs, soft drinks – all provided by the Providence Canteen. Entertainment will be provided by Joe Vingi of Pleasure Sounds Unlimited. MS Dream Center and Accessible Rhode Island to hold Wine & Dine Extravaganza

The MS Dream Center of Rhode Island and Accessible Rhode Island will host a Wine & Dine Extravaganza on Sept. 8 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization, which is dedicated to benefiting individuals with multiple sclerosis and other disabilities.

The event, sponsored by Bob Gasbarro’s Oaklawn Liquors, features a wine and beer tasting, along with a variety of food from some of Rhode Island’s best-known restaurants. The event will also include entertainment, raffles, live auction, a 50/50, and a mystery wine and dine pairing. Tickets are $60 each or 10 for $500. To purchase tickets, visit www.msdreamcenter.org.

The MS Dream Center was founded in April 2010 with a mission of engaging all members of the MS community in purposeful activity, while promoting a spirit of camaraderie. 33rd Cranston Greek Festival coming soon

For more than two generations, the Cranston Greek Festival has been held the on the church grounds, the weekend after Labor Day. The Festival marks the “Official End of Summer in Rhode Island.” This year it will be held on Sept. 7 through Sept. 9. More than 25,000 people will visit the Cranston Greek Festival over the course of this fabulous three-day event of Food, Fun, Greek Dancing and Culture. The 33rd Annual “3-Day” Cranston Greek Festival will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation on the parish grounds at 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Route 5, Cranston.

Outdoor Church Bazaar

Trinity Assembly of God located at 2119 Hartford Ave. in Johnston, are seeking vendors for their upcoming Outdoor Church Bazaar to be held on Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $20 per spot (large enough for a 10x10 tent). If interested, contact Nicole at 215-4410 or Nlb198374@aol.com.

Johnston Historical Society

Their museum barn is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2 to 5 p.m.; or by appointment, for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society's collection of printed materials. Just in case, call ahead to confirm they are there. Dues are $20 per year for an individual, $30 per year for a family (two adults and children under 18) membership. The purpose of the JHS is to identify, preserve and promote the history of our town. It is located at 101 Putnam Pike in Johnston and can be reached by calling 231-3380.

Teen End of Summer Party at the Mohr

The Mohr Library will celebrate the end of the Summer on Aug. 28 in the Teen Room with Librarian: Emilie from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Teen Arts & Crafts Club will meet every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. Love arts & crafts? Join in each week to make something new and express yourself. Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club will be held every Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Dungeons & Dragons for Teens is a cooperative role-playing game recently made famous in Stranger Things. Teens create their own characters & play out a story together. We will be beginning a new storyline called Storm King’s Thunder, where adventurers battle giants. Teen Chess Club will meet every Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Mohr.  Join them for the classic strategy game Chess. Battle your friends or test your wits against the librarian! Cranston Senior Guild open to all

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Teen Task Force

Teen Task Force seeking members. Do you want to show the community how teens can make a positive impact? Join the Mohr Library’s Teen Task Force to help build a better world. Become part of this teen-driven group advocating for the library and for the teens in our community. Plan monthly teen programs, organize weekly activities & crafts, give suggestions for new material purchases, initiate teen participation, and earn volunteer hours. Participate in bi-weekly meetings and teen-led activity benefiting the teens, the community and causes of your choice.
