“Bowling for WISHES” Bowl-a-Thon

A Wish Come True is sponsoring their first “Bowling for WISHES” Bowl- A–Thon on Saturday, June 23 at Lang’s Bowlarama, located at 225 Niantic Ave., in Cranston. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the cost of bowling, including shoes, is $15 for adults and $8 for kids 12 & under. There will be music, raffles and fun activities.

To register, call A Wish Come True office at 781-9199 or go to www.awish.org/bowling-for-wishes. Interested parties may also show up at Lang’s the day of the event. A Wish Come True, is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to grant wishes to children age 3 through 18 who suffer from life threatening illnesses and live in Rhode Island and parts of southeastern Massachusetts. The average cost of a WISH is between $3,500- $5,000. At this time, A Wish Come True is working with 27 different kids.

At the Mohr Library

On June 12 at 6 p.m. meet science fiction author Colin Carlton and on June 16 at 3 p.m. enjoy a performance bys Lloyd Kaplan and the Aristocats. Gluten-Free Cooking, with samples, pamphlets and a book by the presenter Lucie Contente will be available on June 19 at 6 p.m. Lucie Contente has researched and written about gluten-free cooking and developed recipes. She’ll have a copy of her book on hand as well as other literature and will bring samples of her cooking.

Bowling Fundraiser

Help the Homeless RI will be holding a Bowling Fundraiser on Saturday, June 16 from 8 to 10 p.m. The event will be held at Town Hall Lanes located at 1463 Atwood Ave. in Johnston. For $20, guests will receive 2 hours of bowling, rental of bowling shoes, pizza and soda. Vendors being sought

Vendors wanted for a Yard Sale at the Kelly Gazzerro VFW Post 2812, 1418 Plainfield St., Cranston, on June 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $20 for each table. To secure a spot or for more information please call Lillian at 829-6080.

Johnston Historical Society

The Johnston Historical Society’s Museum Barn is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2 to5 p.m.; or by appointment, for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society’s collection of printed materials. Just in case, call ahead to confirm they are there.

Dues are $20 per year for an individual, $30 per year for a family (two adults and children under 18) membership. The purpose of the JHS is to identify, preserve and promote the history of our town. It is located at 101 Putnam Pike in Johnston and can be reached by calling 231-3380.

At the Mohr for children

Storytime has begun and offers stories, songs and rhymes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers and their caregivers. Held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for all ages, Storytime starts at 10:30 a.m. There is no need to register.

Saturday Drop-In Crafts are held when the Mohr Library is open. Come anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for several self-directed projects for kids and parents to do together. (Craft programs are not appropriate for children under 3 as small parts might present a hazard.)

Lego Club meets every second Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Play with LEGO bricks donated by LEGO Systems. Ages 5 and up. No registration required.

I SPY is held anytime when the library is open. Play I Spy Pokémon, I Spy Pete the Cat or three other I Spy games that a talented volunteer has made for you and get a sticker for each one. All ages.

The Mohr Library offers discount passes to several fun places in and around the state. These passes have been donated by the Friends of Mohr Library. For more information, call 231-4980, and press 5 for the children’s room.

Teen Task Force

Teen Task Force seeking members. Do you want to show the community how teens can make a positive impact? Join the Mohr Library’s Teen Task Force to help build a better world. Become part of this teen-driven group advocating for the library and for the teens in our community. Plan monthly teen programs, organize weekly activities & crafts, give suggestions for new material purchases, initiate teen participation, and earn volunteer hours. Participate in bi-weekly meetings & teen-lead activity benefiting the teens, the community and causes of your choice.
