The West Bay Chorale approaches their upcoming concert, “Love Change Everything”, on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m., at the Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad St. in Cranston. Their featured selections include the beautiful Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes along with various Broadway Love Songs from well- known productions such as “Les Misérables,” “Wicked,” “The Sound of Music” and many more. This will all be under the direction of our very dedicated and enthusiastic director Eric W. Van Devort. Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under. Children 5 and under are free. Hosted by Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council a Cricket Field cleanup day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 12. Meet at 15 Riverside Ave. in Johnston and help with mulch mobs, litter sweeps, graffiti knockouts and general sprucing up for the season. Kids Klub adopted Cricket Field for 2017-2018 last year, and we’ll bring out the picnic tables the kids designed for the park on this day. There will be free t-shirt and refreshments for volunteers. Tools and gloves will be provided but bring your own if you have them.

The Johnston Historical Society’s Museum Barn is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2 to5 p.m.; or by appointment, for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society's collection of printed materials. Just in case, call ahead to confirm they are there.
Dues are $20 per year for an individual, $30 per year for a family (two adults and children under 18) membership. The purpose of the JHS is to identify, preserve and promote the history of our town. It is located at 101 Putnam Pike in Johnston and can be reached by calling 231-3380.
The Gentian Garden Club will hold their Annual Spring Plant Sale on May 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Scituate Community House located at 546 West Greenville Rd.

Fun and Funny - ad-lib comedy theater presented by the Almanac Drops will be featured every Thursday at 8 p.m. Each performance follows a workshop with the Artists’ Exchange Comedy Troupe. Pay what you can admission with a suggested donation of $5 per person at the door. Artists’ Exchange is located at 50 Rolfe Square in Cranston.
Storytime will begin again on May 8 and offer stories, songs and rhymes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers and their caregivers. Held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for all ages, Storytime starts at 10:30 a.m. There is no need to register.
Saturday Drop-In Crafts are held when the Mohr Library is open. Come anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for several self-directed projects for kids and parents to do together. (Craft programs are not appropriate for children under 3 as small parts might present a hazard.)
Lego Club meets every second Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Play with LEGO bricks donated by LEGO Systems. Ages 5 and up. No registration required.
I SPY is held anytime when the library is open. Play I Spy Pokémon, I Spy Pete the Cat or three other I Spy games that a talented volunteer has made for you and get a sticker for each one. All ages.

The friendly bookshelves in the hallway on the lower level of the library have been filled with lots of gently used books for sale, thanks to recent donations from local book lovers. Open daily during regular library hours, you can find something for everyone: children, young adults, and lovers of mystery, romance, science fiction, sports, biography, cookbooks, etc.

In 2018, the National Retail Federation (NRF) estimates that US consumers will spend $23.1 billion celebrating Mother's Day. Shoppers will spend an average of $180 on Mom.
Most consumers will give cards (77%) and flowers (69%) to their mothers or take her out to eat (55%) in 2018, but more money will be spent on jewelry ($4.6 billion) than any other category, according to the NRF. (Source: CNN)
