Singing Santa serenades Senior Center

Last Friday brought sights often unseen at the Johnston Senior Center as Santa visited the annual guests and volunteer’s holiday party while belting out songs of the season.

Well over 100 members and volunteers gathered to rejoice and celebrate the yuletide and all they’ve accomplished together during the past year. All were served a multiple course holiday meal and used the opportunity to reminisce about Christmases past while planning their Christmas present and future.

The event was punctuated by a Singing Santa, compliments of Cedar Home Health and Skilled Rehab, who sang all the greatest hits and encouraged attendees to sing along with him. Multiple raffles were held with all types of festive goodies, and each partygoer received a special gift compliments of the center along with a potted succulent plant.

All of the party’s accoutrements were donated especially for the occasion, with the dinner provided by Blackstone and monetary donations.

Assistant Director Millie Santilli said the center was thrilled to host the party as a way to thank their volunteers and members.

She said that the members of the community who come in and help the town’s oldest residents, whether it be serving food, manning the kitchen or working at the gift shop, they do so “from their heart” and that there efforts are immeasurable for the center’s members.

“I’d like them to know how much we appreciate them and their volunteerism, the definition of that is someone who gives their time without asking for anything in return. For our volunteers that’s exactly what they do,” said Santilli. “That’s why at this time of the year, and through the year, we try to do little special things for them to let them know how much we do appreciate them and everything that they do.”
