Simmonsville bridge to close on Monday

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s $2.8-million project will replace the deteriorating Simmonsville Bridge No. 326, surrounding sidewalks and railings is set to begin Monday, July 9 and continue to completion until mid-November.

RIDOT officials, who previously announced the entire project will be funded by RhodeWorks, a program designed to bring the state’s bridges and roads up to necessary standards, has placed digital signs at the beginning of Simmonsville Avenue off Plainfield Pike and another at the intersection of Simmonsville and Atwood Avenues.

Motorists area asked to use either Plainfield Pike or Atwood Avenue for their respective destinations.
