Grand re-opening block party

Enerje Fitness & Wellness Center and Zen Mafia Yoga, located on 300 Morgan Ave., will be celebrating their grand re-opening block party on June 29 from 1-4 p.m.

Come celebrate Eddie Fleury as the new owner of Enerje Fitness & Wellness. They will be celebrating with their neighbors Zen Mafia Yoga. This event is open to the public.

They will have food, drinks, music, raffles and vendors such as Vic’s Naturals, Glistening Goddesses, Island Wellness Center, and more.

From Cryo Facials and dry needling to spray tans and skincare, there will be something for everyone. There will also be a free outdoor yoga class that is open to everyone.

At the Johnston Historical Society

The Johnston Historical Society’s museum barn is open Tuesdays, 9-11 a.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2-5 p.m.; and the first and third Saturdays of each month, 9-11 a.m., for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society's collection of printed materials. Both the museum and Elijah Angell House continue to be open by appointment – they always welcome visits by interested individuals or groups. Free hearing aid contest

Beltone New England will celebrate the Fourth of July by giving away a pair of hearing aids to one lucky winner to make their holiday special.

The contest has begun and will end on July 12. The public is invited to submit an online nomination of 200 words or more stating why they believe their nominee is deserving of winning a free pair of hearing aids. Entries are being accepted at beltonene.com/giveaway.

“We are excited to select a deserving Fourth of July winner to change their life for the better,” said Michael Andreozzi, CEO of Beltone New England.

Beltone has eight locations covering the entire state and its corporate headquarters is located in Warwick.

The contest winner will be notified by July 31 and announced on Beltone’s Facebook page at a later date. The hearing aids selected as the prize will be based on the results of a complete hearing evaluation of the winner.

Free yoga for breast cancer survivors

The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation and Yoga at Studio Exhale offers yoga for breast cancer survivors every Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m.

Yoga at Studio Exhale, 1263 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, is the place to be to explore slow flow, gentle movement to create space in the body and eliminate stress. This class is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. Visit gloriagemma.org for more details.

Trip to Foxwoods

The Cranston Senior Guild is planning a July 24 trip to Foxwoods. The cost is $27 per person, which included roundtrip transportation on a deluxe motor coach bus, a free buffet or $10 food coupon to any of the casino’s restaurants, and $10 in bonus slot play (subject to change).

The bus to Foxwoods will depart from the Rhode Island Mall near the Burlington location at 9:15 a.m. and return at 3:15 p.m. Payment must be received by July 6, and those interested in joining the trip are advised to reserve a spot early. For more information, call Sunny at 785-0748.

Children’s programs at the Mohr

Lego Club is held every second Thursday of the month through June from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The club has more than 10,000 Lego bricks for participants to use.

Family Drop-in Craft sessions are held every Saturday through June. Drop in anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and enjoy several self-directed projects for kids and parents to do together. There is no need to register. The program is not appropriate for children under 3, as small parts might present a hazard.

Baseball writer, historian to speak at Sprague Mansion

On Tuesday, July 16, the Cranston Historical Society will host baseball writer and historian Steven Krasner at 7 p.m. at the Governor Sprague Mansion, located at 1351 Cranston St.

Krasner, a Cranston native, will discuss the history of local and regional baseball teams. For many years, he covered the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots as a sportswriter for the Providence Journal and then as a freelancer for ESPN Boston. long the way, he began writing children’s books, some of which have a baseball theme.

Go on a nature walk

The Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy, along with the Providence Parks Department, the Blackstone Heritage Corridor and the Rhode Island Land Trust Council, invite you to come out for a walk at Neutaconkanut Hill. See the natural evidence of the change of seasons firsthand with our first Saturday monthly guided hike of the summer.

Dress for the day;s weather and be sure to wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes. This walk is suitable for all ages. Little ones must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. Dogs on a leash are also welcomed. Insect repellent is recommended year-round as a precaution against ticks that carry Lyme disease. There are no public restrooms on site.

This walk is free and open to the public. Donations are welcomed to help support these events and the work of the Conservancy.  No advance reservations are required.

Help make a house a home

The Furniture Bank of RI, a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation, needs bureaus, complete twin or double beds, kitchen sets, mattresses and other household furniture that are no longer needed. To help a less fortunate family through a charitable donation of good used furniture, call 831-5511 to arrange for pick up. All donated articles must be in good condition.

Craft Bash at Artists’ Exchange

The Artists’ Exchange, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, invites families to take part in free Crash Bash events on the last Saturday of every month. The expressive arts can work as a tool for strengthening students’ skills in all disciplines by offering alternative ways to think about core subjects.

Book Sales

Members of the Friends plan and run book sales and carry out other fundraising activities to allow Mohr Library to increase services and programs. The Friends welcome new members who are willing to support either through donations, membership dues, or through volunteering their time. There is an ongoing book sale in the lower level hall across from the meeting room. The Friends also hold larger sales two or three times a year. Great selections at great prices include hard cover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, for adults, children, and young adults. Most prices range from $.25 to $2. The Friends are a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, with proceeds from fundraising supporting library programs and services.

Donations of gently used books are appreciated and can be left at the library's main desk during library hours. Receipts for tax purposes are available.

14th One Act Play Festival at Artists’ Exchange

Artists’ Exchange’s One Act Play Festival returns next month for its 14th season.

The festival runs from July 11-27 at Theatre 82, 82 Rolfe Square, Cranston. It will feature 10 original one-act plays written by local, regional, and national playwrights and performed by an ensemble of 27 actors of all ages, abilities and acting experience.

Performances will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. A beer and wine cash bar will be available before and during the show.

The festival’s directors are Jessica Chace, Tom Chace, Lauren Annicelli and Rhiannon Annin, with original music by Parker Chace and lighting design by Alexander Sprague.

The 2019 plays and their authors are “Game Changer” by Kay Ellen Bullard of Lincoln; “Top Shelf Tolstoy” by Maximillian Gill of Sunnyside, New York; “Up in the Air” by Ben Jolivet of Providence; “FOMO” by Rhea MacCallum of Downey, California; “/ärt/” by Steven G. Martin of Lafayette, Indiana; “When I Grow Up, I Want to Be a Christmas Tree” by Rich Orloff of New York City; “Family by Numbers” by Arianna Rose of Miami Beach, Florida; “Putt-Putt” by George Sapio of Spencer, New York; “The Stand” by Caity-Shea Violette of Boston; and “The Monster Under the Bed” by Joseph Vitale of Denville, New Jersey.

Mohr Library Genealogy Group Meetings

Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library hosts a Genealogy Group on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

The Library has yearly subscriptions to Ancestry.com and New England Historical Genealogical Society databases (NEHGS) on all library computers.

The Library also publishes a monthly newsletter outlining upcoming program details and includes tips for searching. Former programs include field trips to the State Archive and Swan Point Cemetery, as well as speakers on cemeteries, medallions found on gravestones, how to search for a nationality, and much more.
