Soaring up the ranks

Posted

Three Boy Scouts from Johnston Troop 20 rose to the rank of Eagle on June 2 during a ceremony at St. Robert Bellarmine Church.

Damon Bedford, Kenneth Card and Derek Paquin officially received their Eagle awards at the event, where Dist. 42 state Rep. Stephen Ucci – who himself is an Eagle Scout from Troop 20 – served as the master of ceremonies. Johnston Police Deputy Chief Joseph Razza spoke at the event as well. The ceremony outlined the path a Scout takes to make it to the rank of Eagle, as well as what each part of the Scout Oath and Law means and how an Eagle Scout lives them in their everyday life.

Nationally, only 2 percent of boys who start out in Scouting achieve the rank of Eagle. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project to earn the Eagle rank.
