Cutting out hunger

Posted

Thanks to generous Price Rite customers, Price Rite handed over a check for $57,267 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank on Thursday. From November to January, cashiers at the six Rhode Island Price Rites asked customers for one-, three- and five-dollar donations at the checkout line. The Warwick Price Rite on 945 Bald Hill Road came up with the most donations, earning it the distinction as the site for the presentation. Following a check presentation, Cheryl Powers of the Food Bank and Stephanie Botelho, HR generalist with Price Rite cut a cake that was shared with customers in a show of appreciation. The Food Bank distributes all types of food to more than 130 member agencies. The Food Bank receives $175,000 from the State and is gracious for its support from individuals, small businesses and corporations throughout Rhode Island, with combined donations amounting to more than $16 million that includes the value of donated food.
