BankNewport officially opened its 18th branch in Rhode Island with a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday at 1423 Hartford Ave. in Johnston.

“This is beautiful, a welcome sight that replaces what was an eyesore for years,” Mayor Joseph Polisena told a number of BankNewport officials at the 1,100-square-foot location. “We wish you the very best and congratulate you for enhancing the appearance at this busy intersection.”

Polisena wasn’t the only Johnston resident to take part in the ceremony, as Mohamad “Sam” Sasa, president of Sasa Energy in Johnston, is a BankNewport incorporator.

“Today is an exciting event for BankNewport and our great town of Johnston,” Sasa said. “We are excited to be here and look forward to doing business with people in our community.”

Among those people who took part in yesterday’s BankNewport ribbon cutting that marked the bank’s 18th branch in Rhode Island are, from left: Sasa; Polisena; Jiolvis Caraballo, BN; Peter Capodilupo, BN board chairman; Eddy Grijalva, BN; Sandra J.
