The Council Round-up is a digest of licenses, appointments and other proceedings from the Johnston Town Council’s Nov. 12 meeting.

LICENSES

The council approved, 4-0, a business operating license, phone calls only, for Dave Oliver Construction, located at 50 Victor Ave. The matter had been continued from the October meeting.

The council approved a business operating license for Nutrisystem, located at 1500 Atwood Ave. The matter had been continued from the October meeting.

The council approved a business operating license, phone calls only, for M Ramos Masonry, located at 63 Railroad Ave. The matter had been continued from the October meeting.

The council approved a business operating license and tobacco license for Dollar General, located at 2630 Hartford Ave.

The council approved a business operating license, phone calls only, for VIP Caribbean Travel, located at 10 Olivia Court.

The council approved a business operating license, phone calls only, for Power Pro Contracting, located at 24 Harris Ave.

The council approved a business operating license, phone calls only, for Joy’s Tales of Tails, located at 60 Pleasantville Ave.

The council approved a business operating license for BankNewport, located at 1423 Hartford Ave. Construction is expected to finish by Dec. 4.

The council approved a business operating license for Tailor on the Avenue, located at 1395 Atwood Ave., Suite 102.

The council approved several licenses for Strings Bar and Grill, located at 183 George Waterman Road. The council approved the establishment’s restaurant license transfer and entertainment license, as well as a Class BV full liquor license. SPECIAL BUSINESS

Mayor Joseph Polisena presented the council with an example of a red street sign, featuring the words “drive like your children live here,” during Tuesday’s proceedings. He said he has had between seven and 10 made for each district to alleviate concerns over speeding.

NEW BUSINESS

The council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with the American Red Cross to assist the town with preparation for and the recovery from emergencies and disasters.

The council sent a petition for a zone change submitted by Sitwell Park, seeking to change the zone map for Assessor’s Plat 54, Lots 31, 34, 80 and 118 from B-2 and R-40 to B-3, to the Planning Board.

PUBLIC HEARING

The council approved a zone map changed submitted by Wyatt Brochu, Esq., on behalf of Ryan Health Center and 76 Morgan LLC to change the zone of the lots located on Assessor’s Plat 44 Lot 1, 80 Morgan Ave. and Lot 276 Morgan Avenue from an R-15 zone to a PD/CCRC-Continuing Care Retirement Community Zone. SHOW CAUSE HEARINGS

The council continued the show cause hearing for Underground Billiards, located at 928 Plainfield St., until the Dec. 9 meeting.

The council continued the show cause hearing for Town Hall Lanes, located at 1463 Atwood Ave., until the March 2020 meeting after the business had worked out a sales tax payment plan with the Division of Taxation.
