The Council Round-up is a digest of licenses, appointments and other proceedings from the Johnston Town Council’s July 8 meeting.

LICENSES

The council voted, 4-0, to continue the business operating license hearing for The Tree King, located at 60 Venice Ave. until the next meeting on Aug. 13. The applicant was not present. Council President Robert V. Russo was not in attendance on Monday, and Vice President Joseph Polisena Jr. led the proceedings.

The council voted to approve the business operating license for Salisbury Farm, located at 11 Peck Hill Road.

The Council voted to approve the business operating license for North East Apple, located at 180 Shun Pike. North East Apple is a business specializing in the processing and peeling of apples.

The council voted to continue the business operating license for Red Ginger Restaurant, located at 560 Killingly St., until the next meeting on Aug. 13. The council later continued a hearing for Red Ginger Restaurant for its Class BV Full license.

The council voted to approve a slew of licenses, including an entertainment license, for Wings on 5, located at 1463 Atwood Ave. The council would later approve a Class B Limited license for Wings on 5.

The council voted to approve a change of location and hawker/peddler license for Gold Star Auto Sales, located at 53 Greenville Ave.

The council voted to approve the business operating license for Lowell’s Garage, located at 235 Putnam Pike.

The council voted to approve the business operating license for Spirit Halloween, located at 11 Commerce Way.

The council voted to approve the restaurant license for Carol and Mario Catering, located at 1551 Plainfield St. Solicitor Dylan Conley said the approval is pending a fire inspection.

RESOLUTIONS

The council voted to approve a resolution directing a contribution to the Other Post-Employment Benefits, or OPEB, Trust Fund within the town’s Internal Service Healthcare Fund. It was approved with the condition that the council could return at a later date and add more money to the fund.

The council voted to approve a resolution awarding a bid and authorizing Mayor Joseph Polisena to enter into a purchasing and maintenance agreement for a large format printer/scanner package for the Public Works Department.

PETITION

The council voted to approve a petition submitted by Michael Chan for the abandonment of a portion of Oakland Avenue located on Assessor’s Plat 14 for referral to the Planning Board for an advisory opinion.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

The council voted to approve an amendment to the town code of ordinances allowing Johnston to automatically adopt the update state building code every few years.

The council voted to approve an ordinance ordering the assessment and collection of property tax on the ratable real estate, tangible personal property and an excise tax on registered motor vehicles and trailers.

SHOW CAUSE HEARINGS

The council voted to continue the show cause hearing for Underground Billiards, located at 928 Plainfield St., until the next meeting on Aug. 13. Notice will be issued to the applicant.

A show cause hearing for Town Hall Lanes, located at 1463 Atwood Ave., was continued until the next meeting on Aug. 13. No vote was taken as the matter was already listed as continued on the agenda.

The council voted to continue a show cause hearing for Classic Express Ice Cream Cafe, located on Atwood Avenue, until the next meeting on Aug. 13.
