The Rhode Island State Police Museum Foundation will host its second annual Vintage Cruiser Show on Sunday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rhode Island State Police Headquarters, 311 Danielson Pike, North Scituate.

More than 40 vintage police cruisers and motorcycles from police departments across the country will be on display, along with specialty vehicles and equipment currently being used by Rhode Island State Police tactical units.

The event also includes a variety of fun family activities, including a BoldRDash obstacle course, bounce house, dunk tank, arts and crafts and a scavenger hunt. The Rhode Island State Police Museum will also be open for attendees to see the evolution in uniforms, guns and other equipment used by the Rhode Island State Police since it was founded in 1925. In addition, a certified child passenger safety technician will be available to perform child car seat checks and free child identification kits will be available for interested families.

In lieu of admission fees, the Rhode Island State Police Museum Foundation suggests a donation of $3 for adults; children under age 12 are free. All proceeds will go towards the foundation’s costs of maintaining the museum and offering programs to educate the public about the rich and storied history of the Rhode Island State Police.

Rhode Island State Police Captain Matthew C. Moynihan, president of the Rhode Island State Police Museum Foundation, said last year’s show attracted hundreds of people, including classic car owners, law enforcement enthusiasts and others who enjoyed the opportunity to get a close-up view of police cars and equipment.

“We invite all members of the community to join us for this fun, family-friendly event,” Captain Moynihan said. “It’s a great opportunity to learn how the Rhode Island State Police has changed over the years while also providing children of all ages with lots of fun things to see and do.”

This year’s Vintage Cruiser Show will have nearly double as many classic cruisers on display, including a 1949 Ford from the West Warwick Police Department; a 1979 Chrysler Newport cruiser from the Rhode Island State Police; and a 1987 Dodge Ramcharger used by the California Highway Patrol. Several classic police motorcycles also are expected to be on hand.

The Rhode Island State Police also will have displays from the SWAT Team, Dive Team and other specialty units. A demonstration by the Division’s Canine Unit will take place from 12:30 to 10 p.m.

Family-friendly activities will be offered throughout the day, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Additional information regarding the event can be found on the Rhode Island State Police Museum Foundation website www.rispmuseum.org/vintage-cruiser-show.
