Richard A. Powell, 71, of Johnston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was the beloved husband of thirty-eight years to Marie R. (Tomao) Powell.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Edith (Wayss) Powell. Richard was a truck driver for McLaughlin and Moran, Inc. for ten years before his retirement. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Germany during the Vietnam War era.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children: Edward M. Joseph, Richard D. Joseph, Robert P. Joseph and his wife Nina, and Michael S. Joseph, all of Johnston. He was the cherished grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of seven. Richard was the brother of Karen Marbry of Arlington, TX, Joan Jordan of Jamestown, and Thomas Powell of Warwick.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
