Police Log - 09/19/19

The Police Log is a digest of reports provided by the Johnston Police, Rhode Island State Police and other departments.

WARRANT

Patrolman Kevin W. Lyons responded to Bank of America at 1481 Atwood Ave. on the morning of Sept. 6 for the report of an irate customer.
Upon arrival, Lyons spoke with an unnamed party who identified Dustin Brown, 35, 374 Woonasquatucket Ave., North Providence, as the irate customer. Brown was upset and yelling, and the unnamed party wished to have Brown trespassed from the bank. A check revealed that Brown was wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Providence Police on a charge of harassing communications.
Brown was taken into custody without incident and transported to headquarters, where he was processed and secured while waiting for Providence Police to pick him up.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Patrolman Richard J. Varan observed a vehicle traveling north on Morgan Avenue with an expired inspection sticker reading February 2019 on the afternoon of Sept. 10.
Varan stopped the vehicle in the area of 80 Morgan Ave. and identified the operator as Heldebertos Lemos, 47, 61 Ipswich St., Johnston, through his driver’s license. A Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles check revealed that the registration was cancelled and both registration plates were listed as stolen out of Woonsocket. Dispatch personnel later contacted the Woonsocket Police Department in regards to the stolen registration plates. The Woonsocket Police did not have a criminal complaint on file at that time.
Another DMV check also revealed that Lemos had a suspended driver’s license. Lemos was issued a Third Division District Court summons to appear Sept. 16 on a charge of operating with a suspended license, second offense.
Lemos was also issued a summons for operation of an unregistered vehicle/improper use of evidence of registration or certificate of title with a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal court date of Oct. 3. Lemos additionally received a summons for violation of inspection laws with a Johnston Municipal Court date of Oct. 2.

VANDALISM

Patrolmen Arthur Petteruti and Richard J. Varan responded to the Warwick Police Department on the morning of Sept. 10 to take custody of Patrick McMahon, 19, 152 Bellman Ave., Warwick.
McMahon was wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Johnston Police on a charge of vandalism/malicious injury to property, stemming from an alleged incident occurring the evening of Aug. 23. The reporting party responded to Johnston Police headquarters and spoke with Patrolman Derrick Palazzo concerning a vandalism complaint.
The reporting party said he was traveling westbound on Plainfield Street less than about an hour earlier, approaching Speedway, when he observed an ex-friend, identified as McMahon, run into the roadway from across the street and throw an object at his vehicle.
The man stated that the unknown object struck his vehicle and caused a large dent to the rear driver’s side fender. Palazzo said the reporting party stated that he positively identified McMahon when he threw the unknown object at his vehicle and also advised that he had received a call from McMahon after the incident admitting to the vandalism.
Detective Michael G. Edwards spoke with the reporting party a few days later regarding the damage to his vehicle. Edwards said the party told him McMahon is a suspect in another vandalism to his property that occurred in Warwick. The party added that he spoke with McMahon after the vandalism and McMahon stated he was leaving the state to avoid being located. Edwards said the man told him McMahon did not mention where he was going if he did in fact leave.
McMahon was released with a Third Division District Court summons for Sept. 16.
