FORGERY AND COUNTERFEITING

On July 11 around 2:50 p.m., Officer Michael Andreozzi responded to the Atwood Avenue TD Bank in reference to a subject attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Dispatch informed the officer that the bank manager was attempting to verify the signature on the check in question and was also attempting to keep the suspects at the drive up teller.

Upon arrival, Officer Andreozzi reports that he observed a Honda Pilot occupied by two males and one female parked at the drive up teller spot. After approaching the vehicle, the occupants were identified as Ian Carney, 29, of 746 Atwells Avenue Apt. 3 in Providence, Antwaun Prout, 37, of 65 Appleton Street in Cranston, and Destiny Rigollet, 26, of 22 Idaho Street in Coventry.

With the assistance of other officers who arrived on scene, Officer Andreozzi was able to respond inside the bank and spoke with the manager, who stated he was notified by a bank teller of a possible fraudulent check that was attempted to be cashed. The check was made out to Ian Carney in the amount of $140. The employees then began to compare the signature on the check to other cancelled checks. When they observed that there was a difference in signatures, he contacted the check owner.

It was then discovered that the check in question was not endorsed by the owner, and she stated that her vehicle had been rummaged through the previous evening. She advised that she would respond to the bank immediately. The police were then called.

Officer Andreozzi then met with the account holder, who confirmed the story and stated that she did not realize that her checkbook was inside her vehicle at the time it was tampered with until she was notified of the check cashing incident. She filled out a witness statement and indicated that she wished to file a criminal complaint.

During the investigation, a registry check of the Honda Pilot’s registration revealed that the plate had been entered as stolen property by the Cranston Police Department. A check of the car’s vehicle identification number also revealed that it was reported stolen by the Providence Police Department on July 8. At that time, all three suspects were taken into custody without incident.

The vehicle contained numerous personal items that were suspected of being possible stolen property. The vehicle was then towed from the scene and secured at the police headquarters parking lot. The suspects were then transported to headquarters and held pending further investigation.

Ian Carney was charged with forgery and counterfeiting, passing of counterfeit certificates, receiving stolen goods, and conspiracy.

Antwaun Prout was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving stolen goods, and conspiracy.

Destiny Rigollet was charged with receiving stolen goods and conspiracy.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Officer Merrick Cook was on patrol on Greenville Avenue on July 12 at approximately 5:50 p.m. when he conducted a motor vehicle stop in front of 4 Truman Street.

He then met with the driver, later identified as Carl Simon, 21, of 12 Truman Street in Johnston. Simon did not have his license on him at the time and stated that the vehicle did not belong to him. Procedural checks revealed that Simon’s license was suspended. Further checks discovered that the vehicle had a cancelled registration with its registration plates suspended and belonging to a different vehicle.

Simon was issued a Third District Court summons for driving with a suspended license, second offense. He was also issued a summons for operating a vehicle when the registration is cancelled, improper use of registration, and operating a vehicle without insurance. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
