OFF-DUTY OFFICER ASSAULTED

According to information provided by Deputy Chief Joseph Razza, Ms. Victoria L. Lombardo, 25 years of age, was arrested on the evening of July 4th. She has been charged with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. While the department is not releasing the victim’s name, he is a Johnston Police officer who was off-duty at the time of her arrest. She was released that evening by a Justice of the Peace and was scheduled to appear at the Third District Court on July 9 for arraignment.

WARRANT

On July 2 around 7:44 a.m., Officer Derick Ofori and Major Thomas Dolan responded to the area of Newman Avenue for a report of a suspicious male knocking on doors. While in the area of Newman Avenue and Di Sarro Avenue the officers located a man, later identified as Silvino Baessa, 52, of 73 Liberty Street in Central Falls.

Baessa reportedly told the officers that he was in the area looking for landscaping work. Background checks revealed that Baessa had an active Sixth District Court bench warrant from a failure to appear violation of a no contact order. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was processed, allowed the use of a telephone and held pending arraignment.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

While on patrol in the vicinity of 621 Killingly Street on July 7 at approximately 7 p.m., Officer Merrick Cook conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle with an expired registration sticker. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Mantiely Sayeh, 37, of 111 George Street Apt. #1R in Johnston.

While the vehicle did not belong to Sayeh, he did not have a license on his person and presented the officer with a Rhode Island ID card. Sayeh also could not produce any paperwork for the vehicle. Procedural checks revealed that the car had a cancelled registration, with the plates on the vehicle also cancelled and last registered to a different vehicle. Further checks revealed that Sayeh’s license was suspended.

He was issued a Third District Court summons for driving with a suspended license, second offense. He was also issued a summons for operation of a vehicle when registration is cancelled and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

The two license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed and held by the police for safekeeping.

At approximately 10:20 a.m. on July 8, Officers Michael Schiappa and Remy Mendez took up a traffic post in the area of 1025 Plainfield Street. They observed and detained a green Honda traveling east on Plainfield.

A license check on the driver, Jose Carvalho, 28, of 1258 Plainfield Street, Apt. 2 in Johnston, found that he had a suspended license and that this was his third offense. Carvalho was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters.

Carvalho was later released with a Third District Court notice to appear for the suspended license charge, and was also given a summons for not wearing a seatbelt.
