VANDALISM

On April 24 at approximately 12:43 a.m., Officer Michael Martufi along with other members of the department were dispatched to call for a vandalism in progress. The reporting party had told dispatch that David Diaz, 24, of 119 Silver Lake Avenue, Apt. 1 in Providence, had just vandalized her car. The officers were also advised that Diaz was still standing at the end of the driveway causing a disturbance.

At the scene the officers found the complainant standing in front of her home, and she told the officers that Diaz left on foot towards School Street. Diaz was then described as wearing a black puffy jacket and a knit hat. Officer Martufi then drove to School Street while the other officers remained at the scene.

Officer Martufi then observed the suspect walking on School Street. Diaz stopped for the officer and reportedly confirmed that he was the suspect in question. He was taken into custody. After being advised of his rights, Diaz allegedly told the officer that he went to see if his girlfriend was home but she wasn’t there, so he was walking back to his apartment. As the complainant wished to press charges, Diaz was then transported to police headquarters.

At the station, Diaz reportedly was highly argumentative and uncooperative, and made several threats. He was then secured in a cell. He was charged with vandalism/malicious injury to property and later released with a Third District Court summons to appear on April 30.

On May 6 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Patrolman Matthew Rado met with Diaz in the lobby of police headquarters. Diaz was there to turn himself in on a Third District Court warrant for failure to appear on the vandalism charge. He was processed and transported to the ACI.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

While on patron on April 30 around 6:08 p.m., Sergeant Luca Lancellotti observed a gold Mercury travel through a stop sign on Traver Ave, at the intersection of Hedley Avenue. The officer then detained the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who was identified as Bailey Cornelio, 24, of 1 Amana Drive, Apt. 1 in Johnston.

A background check revealed that Cornelio’s liscense was suspended, and that he had three prior charges for driving with a suspended license. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and given a Third District Court summons. He was also issued a citation for obedience to a stop sign.
