SHOPLIFTING

After a three-month investigation, Johnston Police have arrested Michael A. Slonski, 47 years of age with a last known address of 52 Miller Avenue, Apt. #2 in Providence.

According to a press release, Slonski was wanted by the Johnston Police for felony shoplifting after he stole more than ten thousand dollars worth of assorted DVDs and ink cartridges from the BJ’s Wholesale Club located at 200 Stone Hill Drive in Johnston.

Slonski has been charged with four counts of felony shoplifting and four counts of misdemeanor habitual offender shoplifting. Any department that has had similar incidents in their jurisdiction are encouraged to contact Detective Thomas Dwyer, the Lead Detective in this investigation at Johnston Police headquarters (401-231-4210 ext.3158).

WARRANTS

On December 4 at approximately 3 p.m., Officer Remy Mendez observed a car traveling eastbound in the area of 1470 Hartford Avenue with a passenger not wearing a seatbelt. The car was then detained in the area of 1493 Hartford Avenue.

A background check on the passenger, identified as Ryan Thomas, 37, of 27 Larochelle Avenue in Warwick, revealed that he had two active superior court warrants for failure to appear and a technical violation. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was processed and held for arraignment.

While on patrol on December 5 at approximately 10:40 a.m., Patrolman David Galligan observed a car traveling east on Hartford Avenue. The officer recognized the front seat passenger as Anthony Woodard, 29, of 21 Searle Street in Providence, from prior contacts. A background check revealed that Woodard had an active Superior Court warrant. Following a traffic stop, Woodard was taken into custody without incident and eventually transported to Superior Court.

On December 12 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Patrolman David Galligan responded to Northwoods at 1301 Atwood Avenue. A cafeteria employee at the establishment, Richard J. Rittenberg Jr., 31, of 819 County Street Apt. 7 in Taunton, had an outstanding warrant issued by the Woonsocket Police Department for domestic simple assault and disorderly conduct. Rittenberg was taken into custody without incident and later turned over to the custody of the Woonsocket Police Department.
