FIERY CRASH

A Johnston man was arrested last night on drunk driving charges after troopers responded to several reports of a wrong-way driver and crash on Interstate 295 North just north of Hartford Avenue in Johnston about 7:45 p.m. on November 30.

Robert Allyn Jr., age 57, of 39 Rollingwood Drive, Johnston, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (blood results pending) and driving to endanger, resulting in personal injury. Allyn was allegedly driving south on Interstate 295 south of Exit 7/Route 44 when his pickup truck crossed the median and continued southbound in the northbound high-speed lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming car just north of Exit 6/Hartford Avenue. The pickup truck then caught fire.

Both motorists were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Allyn was arraigned at the hospital last night and released on personal recognizance.

WILLFUL TRESPASS

On November 28 at 10:10 a.m., Officer Adam Parkinson received a telephone call regarding vehicle parked in the fire lane of Stop & Shop on Commerce Way. While registered to another owner, the car is primarily used by Christopher Pimental, 40, of 874 Danielson Pike Apt. 3 in Scituate, who was removed from the supermarket by Officer Parkinson on August 29 and issued a no trespass order.

The reporting party relayed to the officer that Pimental was observed entering the business by the pharmacy entrance and exit through the same, and then enter the driver’s side of the suspect vehicle. The car was detained at the entrance of the plaza, where Pimental was removed and placed in handcuffs. A Stop & Shop manager advised that he would like to sustain the no trespass order and pursue a criminal complaint.

Pimental was taken to police headquarters while his car was driven away by a licensed driver. He was secured in a cell pending transport to the Third District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on November 29, Officers Matthew Rado and Arthur Petteruti responded to the intersection of Atwood Avenue and Starr Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. At the scene, the officers spoke with the operators of the cars involved. A check of one of the drivers, Thomas Rado, 26, of 23 Granite Street in Johnston, revealed that he was driving on a suspended license. It was also determined that his registration was cancelled and not actively registered, according to the police report. Rado was cited for driving on a suspended license, second offense and was issued a Third District Court summons to appear on December 11.

WARRANT

While patrolling the area of Killingly Street on November 28 around 1:30 a.m., Officer Mario Mennella Jr. observed a silver Nissan travelling at an estimated speed of 50 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle onto Route 6 west then onto Hartford Avenue west. A traffic stop was then initiated in the area of 1145 Hartford Avenue.

Contact was then made with the driver, identified as Avery Diaz, 26, of 7 Willern Street in North Providence, who stated that he did not have his license on him but knew his license number. Dispatch advised that Diaz had an outstanding warrant from the Providence Police Department for domestic vandalism and a suspended license.

Diaz was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters. He was issued a District Court notice to appear, and given a summons for speeding and operation of an unregistered vehicle. At approximately 4 a.m. Providence Police arrived and took custody of Diaz for the outstanding warrant.
