Pezzullo sworn in to town Planning Board
Mayor Joseph Polisena swore in Lori Pezzullo as a member of the Town of Johnston Planning Board on Monday at Town Hall. Pezzullo didn’t have much time to get used to the title, as she had her first Planning Board meeting the following evening.
Pezzullo’s first term will run through 2014, and she is the fourth female to join the board’s membership. She takes the place of former board member Michael Campagnone, who resigned from his post.
“I’m looking forward to helping out and serving and giving back to the community,” she said.
Polisena said he is glad to have the Johnston resident on the Planning Board and is also hopeful that she will be appointed to the board of Rhode Island Resource Recovery once the legislature comes back into session in January. She has already interviewed with Governor Lincoln Chafee, but the RIRRC position requires Senate confirmation.
Pezzullo’s mother, Sandra Fleming, says her daughter will be an asset to both organizations because of her experience in business and as an advocate for recycling.
“I’m a strong recycling advocate,” Pezzullo said, to which Fleming responded with a laugh, “She drives me crazy.”
For now, Pezzullo will be busy with the Planning Board.
“It’s a very active board,” Polisena said. “It’s a pro-business board, but you don’t want to impact peoples’ quality of life by putting businesses in peoples’ backyards.”
Pezzullo works for her family company, Carla Corp., which is based in East Providence. She is also the secretary of the Parent Association at St. Rocco School, where she has helped institute recycling programs.
