Bangkok Republik, a small Thai eatery located at 1357 Hartford Avenue in Johnston, has some new hardware.

It’s a spiffy sponsor’s trophy Dan Salvatore recently accepted on behalf of the ownership after coaching Bangkok Republik – which played under the tag of Knicks - to the championship in the Johnston Parks & Recreation Department Basketball League’s Division featuring players in grades seven and eight.

The Bangkok Republik Knicks defeated the Bulls, which were sponsored by the Gary Salzillo-owned Northeast Auto Body, and thus capped off an impressive undefeated season.

Members of Salvatore’s super squad were: Cameron VanStone, Noah Lavergne, Michael LaFlamme, Gavin King, Nick Viau and Dylan Guernon.

VanStone really shined in the championship game as well as the entire season and was known for his unique three-point shooting. He scored 17 and 15 points respectively during the Knicks’ final two post-season games.

“Cam was an instrumental part in the success of our team,” Salvatore wanted it known. “He’s quite the player and who took our cue from him.”
