JMCE set for annual tourney

Judi Graham, who along with her husband David Graham, owns and operates Graham Building of Smithfield, is hoping Sunday’s 5th Annual Co-Ed Memorial Golf Tournament will break all previous records.

“We had great weather for last year’s tournament,” Judi Graham said of the 2018 event that raised $7,100. “We’re hoping for another sellout Sunday.”

If so, that would further bolster the amount of money the highly-acclaimed JMCE (Johnston Memorial Cancer Events) has raised in its 11-year history for the Hematology and Oncology Departments as Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

Moreover, the JMCE has donated over $200,000 by way of its ongoing and annual events, most notably the now 11-year-old golf tournament that continues to be sold out via a playing field of 160 generous golfers for the 18-hole go-round that’s played every spring at famed Connecticut National Golf Club in Putnam, Ct.

Sunday’s Co-Ed Memorial, which is also known as a “Rite of Fall” will be an 18-hole tourney played at the historic and picturesque Glocester Country Club that’s surrounded by beautiful Waterman Lake.

“We’ve got another great playing field,” Graham reported. “By the time Sunday rolls around we’re hoping to be sold out on two fronts.”

The first, obviously, would be the playing field and the second – which Graham and the committee have worked tirelessly to surpass all previous marks – is the memorial tee and green signs that the always-smiling and energetic founder said, “really add up and have in past years pushed our donation total to Hasbro over the top.”

While playing spots are only $100 per golfer and include 18 holes of golf, the cart, lunch at check in and a post-tourney dinner those “extremely valuable” memorial tee signs are priced at only $60 per sign.

Anyone who’d like to remember a loved one, family member of even advertise a business should call either Graham at (401)497-2954 or Linda LaFazia at (401)233-2564. She also wanted it known all checks for Sunday’s tourney should be made payable to the JMC.

In keeping with gradation, Sunday’s tourney - which has always been held at Glocester Country Club through a unanimous vote by members of the 2,702-yard layout – will be the post-tourney raffle that always features unique prizes.
