Another look at the duckpin championship

Bowling in the spotlight is nothing new for Johnston residents Megan Ranucci, Mia Famino, Zachary Simonelli and Gene Potter.

After all, those four youngsters were members of two teams that represented Town Hall Lanes and earlier this year won National Youth Duckpin Bowling Championships in Baltimore, Md.

On a recent weekend, the bowlers above and others from Town Hall Lanes competed for top honors in the 2018 State Youth Duckpin Individual/Doubles Championships at famed Meadowbrook Lanes in Warwick.

A total of 144 youth duckpin bowlers competed in Warwick and Meadowbrook Lanes General Manager Rob Farrell said final tallies will be posted once the competition is finished. He added that bowlers also represented Wickford Lanes in North Kingstown and Dudek Lanes in Warren.

None of those winners, though, advance past the state tournament. Farrell pointed out that that only happens in the spring when team champions advance to the nationals in Maryland.
