Penny Wars entering home stretch at JHS

Posted

Johnston Senior High School has arranged Penny Wars in order to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each class -- the freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors -- have been battling head-to-head to see who can fill their designated penny jar.

The goal of the competition is to take away from other teams, by adding paper money or silver coins to their jars, which reduces the technical amount to which the jar adds. Only pennies count in benefiting the class’s cumulative score amount, but all money that is donated goes to the cause. The competitive aspect of the fundraiser motivates students to donate, effectively raising money for the foundation.

Each class decorated its jar accordingly, some alluding to their battle of the classes or float theme. As the competition closes the week of April 5, the students quickly gathered their pennies in an attempt to be victorious.
