Panthers set for home stretch

Snow, snow, go away – and don’t come back another day, either.

“At least not until we’ve completed our winter sports season,” Keith Cory, the athletic director at Johnston High School, mused while he watched snow and sleet fall Tuesday. “The weather really raised havoc with today’s schedule.”

So much so, Cory had to shuffle and reschedule two basketball games while Tuesday’s storm also forced postponement of two important ceremonies on Cherry Hill.

The Panthers of Head Coach Dan Mazzulla, who are headed for the post-season playoffs, were supposed to play the Central Falls High School basketball Warriors Tuesday night. Snow, though, forced Cory to reschedule that contest for this Saturday with tip off set for 5:15 p.m.

Saturday’s varsity game will be preceded by a junior varsity contest at 3:30 p.m.

Thus, Tuesday was supposed to be Senior Night with the pre-game festivities honoring the JHS senior basketball players and cheerleaders. The boys’ part of that program has been reset for Tuesday night prior to the 6 p.m. tip when Johnston entertains Times 2 Academy of Providence.

Cory also announced that Saturday’s 5:15 tip off vs. the CF Warriors will be preceded by a special ceremony honoring Head Coach Susan Parillo’s senior cheerleaders. No playoff dates have as yet been scheduled.
