The Panthers were blanked 4-0 by the Pilgrim Patriots during a Division III boys soccer matchup at Johnston High School on Friday afternoon.

Pilgrim used two goals apiece from Dan Peixinho and Aaron Ramos to earn the win.

The Panthers just couldn’t get anything going throughout the 80 minutes.

“It was just a tough game overall,” Johnston head coach John Sousa said. “We had a hard time. We didn’t communicate the way we normally do. We just didn’t play like we normally play. The shots weren’t there, the passing wasn’t there, and the communication wasn’t there. But I’m not worried. We still have a few games ahead of us. We’re one game away from the playoffs. So, hopefully we’ll get one of those wins in.”

Johnston goalkeeper Ryan Lavoie made ten saves in the contest while Pilgrim’s Steve Laurent stopped five shots.

The Pats drew a 1-0 advantage, eight and a half minutes into the contest, when Peixinho scored with a put back, using a header, after his initial shot missed off the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Pilgrim extended its lead to 2-0 when Ramos fired a shot past Lavoie from 20 yards out.

Next, Collin Murphy assisted ahead to Peixinho for his second tally and that gave the Pats a 3-0 buffer with 9:35 remaining in the first half.

Lastly, Pilgrim upped its cushion to 4-0, with 7:13 left in the second half, when Jovanhi Andrade passed to Ramos, who juked a defender before walloping a shot into the top left corner of the net from 17 yards deep.

Nonetheless, Johnston would get a win on Tuesday night when it shutout Ponaganset 2-0 on senior night which puts the Panthers regular season record at 5-5-3.

Next, the Panthers host a Pink Out on Thursday against North Providence (6-7-0) at 3:30 p.m. in its second to last game of the season.
