More than 50 student projects on display at ECC

They colored it purple last Friday night inside Johnston’s impressively decorated Early Childhood Center.

The all-day kindergarten and pre-K school was aglow with just about every color imaginable. The billboard surrounded by every shade of a rainbow best described the event coordinated by ECC art teacher Kim Marshall.

“Every child is an artist,” the billboard read.

That motto told the story of the school’s fourth successive art show for full-day kindergarten students. There were art videos at two locations, interactive art stations, and music and technology stations.

Students who began their respective works back in September – and continued throughout the year gearing up for Friday’s impressive show – covered almost every inch of available wall space with clever and colorful creations.

In all, 200 students created 50 different projects.

“I switch up the lesson for every class,” Marshall said. “They may all be learning the same concept but creating different projects … such as the color wheel, some students made turtles, some made popsicles and others made ladybugs.”

Teachers Lauren Cardillo, Pat Cardillo, Cathy Alber, Bonnie Duhamel, Toni Lynch and Lori Autiello ran a photo booth that also highlighted Friday’s show. They seemed to be having as much fun as their students, who were decked out in everything from inflatable crayons to a painter’s easel and over-sized sunglasses.

Students also made rainbow lanterns with streamers that were hanging from the ceiling throughout the first-floor showcase.

The ECC’s 2019 Art Show again received rave reviews and Marshall received different forms of compliments and congratulations.

However, as she emphasized while thanking family members Harry, Jane and Ryleigh Cole for attending: “I love seeing how proud the students are when showing their art work to their families. They all work so hard on this all year family art night is a great way to show it off. I hope all my kindergarteners keep their love of art like they did this year.”
