National Honor Society helps make spirits bright

As most know, the holidays are a giving season, and the Johnston Senior High School National Honor Society knows this more than anyone. This group of hardworking, high-achieving students is highly aware of the importance of helping those that our less fortunate.

Throughout the month of December, members of the society volunteered on numerous occasions to ensure that holiday cheer was spread to as many as possible. Every single National Honor Society member purchased a gift for Adopt A Family, giving back to the community.

These gifts were for multiple different families in need. Tri-Town workers picked up the presents towards the end of the month, leaving the students of Johnston Senior High School with a great feeling of gratitude and holiday cheer.

Furthermore, Johnston Senior High School National Honor Society members went caroling at nursing homes in the community throughout the month, spreading happiness to many.

On Monday, December 11, members sang for residents of Briarcliffe Manor. In addition to this, on Wednesday, December 13, another group of National Honor Society members caroled at Cherry Hill nursing home. Finally, for our last caroling visit, members sang their hearts out at Morgan Health Center nursing home on Wednesday, December 20.

Seeing the joyous faces of the residents of these places brought happiness to Johnston Senior High School National Honor Society member’s hearts.

This holiday season was a success for the Johnston Senior High School National Honor Society and we are proud to say that we did our part in ensuring a great holiday for all. We thank everyone who contributed to Adopt A Family and to those who helped make our contributions to the community possible.

This time of the year is special for so many reasons, but mostly, it is the time of the year for giving. It is the time of the year where an appreciation for life thrives. It is an awakening for how lucky we truly are. H. Jackson Brown Jr., an American author, once said, “Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.”
