In 2006 Rhode Island Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society created the Instruments for Children Scholarship Program to bring music into the lives of school children. Studies show that playing a musical instrument helps children to succeed in their academics. Unfortunately for many children having a musical instrument to call their own is a financial hurdle that they cannot overcome.
The Instruments for Children Program of the Rhode Island Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society again requests assistance in reaching out to potential donors of used or new musical instruments for children who express an interest in their school music programs and who would not be able to participate without help. Through past generosity, many students are currently enjoying the rewards of music in their school systems.
The RIRBPS are currently seeking instruments such as, flutes, trumpets, saxophones, trombones, clarinets, string instruments-violins, cellos, bass, electronic keyboards, beginner drums, etc. The organization sees that the donated instruments are fully restored before they reach the schools. These instruments will be provided to children for whom this activity would otherwise be a financial hardship.
This 12-year-old program has provided over 300 musical instruments to students in RI schools and has witnessed some promising young musicians develop during this time.
The Rhode Island Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. Our mission is to preserve and promote the Rhythm and Blues traditional music art form through events, activities, and public education programs.
