Moving on up
Wednesday was a day filled with adventure for the kindergarten students at the Early Childhood Center as they took part in their “Move up Day,” where the children took a trip to the elementary school that they will attend first grade after summer break.
Students arrived that morning at the ECC for a normal school day, but at 9:15 they began boarding busses with the other students that would be attending their elementary school. Chaperoned by teachers and support staff, each child had a specially made, color-coordinated t-shirt and a name tag that they wore for their journey.
For approximately one hour, the students visited their respective schools: Winsor Hill, Brown Avenue and Thornton Elementary. Their parents were invited to meet the children at their soon-to-be new school for the tour and to meet their teachers.
ECC Principal Julie-ann Zarrella said that the trip gives parents and students a chance to break the ice and prepare for the changes they’ll soon experience. She added that she couldn’t believe how fast this school year had passed and how proud she was of each of her students’ progress during their stay at the ECC.
