Mentor RI signing up those Frozen Clams

Posted

If you want to run into freezing cold water to kick off your 2018, then Goddard Park at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day is the place to be. For the seventh straight year, Mentor Rhode Island and Laid-Back Fitness will co-host the Frozen Clam Dip and Obstaplunge to welcome in the New Year.

Registration can be done online prior to the event at mentorri.networkforgood.com/events/4328-the-2018-frozen-clam-dip-obstaplunge.

Check-in begins at 11 a.m. on January 1 and the daring dip into the bay will be at noon. The Obstaplunge, which is a half-mile “American Ninja Warrior” style obstacle course, will also take place at noon and the participants will finish the course with their own jump into the bay.

The cost of registration for the “traditional frozen clam dippers” is $30 and for “Obstaplungers” it is $40. Kids under the age of 10 can register and participate for free.

All funds support the Mentor Rhode Island, a 501(c)3 dedicated to the expansion of quality mentoring services for Rhode Island youth.

All participants must sign a waiver at the event and a parent/guardian must be present to sign the waiver for anyone under 18.

All paid participants will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt.

A $250 sponsorship package with listing on the t-shirt and on the Mentor Rhode Island website is also available.

There will also be local food trucks and live entertainment in attendance.
