If there is a secret to aging gracefully, Madeline E. Caron seems to have found it. Caron turned 100 years young on Sunday.
Caron smiled ear-to-ear upon entering the banquet room at Chelo’s on Post Road when she saw the place packed with friends and family, including four men from the Lincoln Senior Center who play with Caron in a band.
Originally from Illinois, Caron moved around to Nebraska, Minnesota and then to Fall River before settling in Warwick for 58 years. She was married for 51 years to her husband, Edward.
Caron learned to fly when she was 50 and flew until she was 80 years old. She now enjoys quilting and crossword puzzles and taught herself how to play the guitar, ukulele and the keyboard in her 90s. She received commendations on her birthday from Mayor Avedisian, Governor Raimondo, Mayor Murray of Cumberland and even the White House.
As her fellow bandmates sang out, Caron smiled and sang along the whole time. The Beacon congratulates Caron on her life that has so clearly filled others' with joy and love.

Congratulations to Mrs. Caron, a lady of many talents, on your 100th birthday. Your story is proof that one is never "too old" to learn new skills and express yourself through music. I wish you many more happy years of good times with your family and friends!
