Legislative grant to assist JSC with transportation

During his tenure as a Rhode Island State Senator, Frank S. Lombardo III has taken tremendous pride in obtaining legislative grants for all seasons and reasons.

Lombardo, who said he “enjoys making a difference for the people in District 25,” most recently secured a Rhode Island State Legislative Grant for $2,000 that will go a long way in helping the nationally accredited Johnston Senior Center.

“We’re spelling this grant F-U-E-L,” Lombardo said with a side smile while presenting the check to Millie Santilli, the JSC’s assistant director. “Basically, our great senior facility will use this grant for transportation.”

Santilli, who like Executive Director Tony Zompa was obviously thrilled with Lombardo’s work, said, “I can’t tell you how important this grant is; we’ll use this to fuel our bus that often picks up seniors who don’t have transportation but love coming to the Center for various programs and luncheons.”

The Assistant Director, who thanked Lombardo for his ongoing efforts, said, “When you’re operating a facility like this (JSC), every little bit of funding certainly helps.”

Lombardo added: “We in the legislature feel these grants are important and sometimes vital. They’re used for a numbers of things like transportation, upgrading and improving properties for recreational activities and they’re presented to non-profits who must make application to even be considered.”

In years past, Lombardo has been praised by state and local officials for obtaining grants for schools, the recent improvements that were made to the baseball fields inside Johnston War Memorial Park and the funding of senior citizen programs.
