FATAL CRASH

An East Providence man was killed in an accident at the intersection of Allendale Avenue and George Waterman Road last Wednesday.

The collision involved a dirtbike and a Jeep, and Johnston Police announced through a press release that Michael Viscolosi, 25, was pinned underneath the Jeep and pronounced dead on arrival.

Johnston Police also said Nicholas Cambio, 24, of North Providence, who was also determined to be riding on the dirtbike, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition was listed as critical after surgery last week.

Johnston Police added that the operator of the Jeep and her two passengers were not injured in the crash and cooperated fully with investigators. Investigators are still looking into who was operating the dirtbike at the time of the collision, and speed and inhabitants have been ruled out as determining factors.

WARRANT

Patrolman Matthew Winsor responded to 12 Truman Ave. on the afternoon of July 19 in response to a possible disturbance.

While on scene, Winsor observed a vehicle with what appeared to be fresh damage to its windshield. He saw a woman and a man – later identified as Carl K. Simon, 22, 12 Truman St., Johnston – inside the vehicle.

Winsor said the woman was very reluctant to speak with him and refused to provide information. When Winsor asked how the windshield was damaged, the woman responded that she had purchased the vehicle in that condition.

Winsor said Simon also refused to answer questions regarding the windshield. The patrolman additionally observed that the glass front door to the residence was broken. He spoke with the homeowners, and one said she was sleeping and was unaware of how it was broken. The other said he was not home at the time.

Winsor said he continued to ask questions, but Simon and the woman refused to answer. He said that, based on lack of cooperation and there being no independent witness, no criminal charges were filed at that time. A check did reveal, though, that Simon was wanted on an active Third Division District Court bench warrant for failure to appear for a disposition, stemming from a suspended license charge in West Warwick. He was arrested and transported to Johnston Police headquarters.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Patrolman Arthur Petteruti was on patrol in the area of 1385 Hartford Ave. on the morning of July 24 when he observed a vehicle with no front registration plate affixed to the bumper.

Petteruti initiated a motor vehicle stop and spoke with the operator, identified as Michael Christopher Guadagno, 47, 124 Federal Way, Johnston. A Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles check revealed Guadagno’s license was suspended and his registration was cancelled. An R.I. Court Connect Smart check further revealed that this was Guadagno’s third violation.

Guadagno was charged with driving with a suspended license, third offense. He was issued a Third Division District Court summons for July 29. Guadagno was also issued citations for display of plates, violation of inspection laws and operation of an unregistered vehicle.

Patrolman Richard J. Varan observed a vehicle without a Rhode Island inspection sticker traveling on Hartford Avenue the evening of July 23.

Varan conducted a motor vehicle stop and spoke with the operator, identified as Keith Branch, 28, 573 Main Ave., Warwick. A Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles check revealed the Rhode Island registration came back as not on file. The check also showed that Branch’s license had been suspended.

Branch was issued a Third Division District Court summons for July 29 to appear on charges of driving with a suspended license, first offense. He was also issued a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal summons for operation of an unregistered vehicle and no inspection sticker. That court date is set for Aug. 15.

INTERLOCK REQUIRED

Patrolman Jared DeAngelis was on patrol the morning of July 22 when he noticed a Florida transporter registration affixed to a vehicle on Killingly Street.

DeAngelis said he immediately recognized the operator as James R. Anderson Jr., 34, 15 Tall Oaks Court, Johnston. A check revealed that, while Anderson’s license is active, he is required to solely operate vehicles with an ignition interlock system. DeAngelis said since Anderson was driving with transporter plates, he was either improperly using them or operating a vehicle without an interlock device.

DeAngelis conducted a motor vehicle stop and Anderson said the vehicle did not have an interlock system. Anderson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor ignition interlock required. He was released with a Third Division District Court summons for July 29.
