Johnston Youth Football & Cheerleading set for banquet

The well-organized and highly-successful Johnston Youth Football & Cheerleading program is about to record another milestone in its storied history that dates back to 1970.

“We call it our annual league banquet,” Gary Salzillo, the JYFC group’s popular president explained. “It’s one of our most fun events of the year that this year could set another record and possibly be sold out.”

That’s because the Panthers, as the outstanding program that offers flag and tackle football and cheerleading, has perhaps the most participants in its history and every participant is recognized in some way, shape or fashion during the annual awards function.

The 2019 dinner, which will serve as a classic celebration of the 2018 season during which the Johnston Panthers football and cheerleading units racked up a host of honors beginning at the local level of the American Youth Football program’s Blackstone Valley Division to national honors.

“Everyone is looking forward to the dinner,” Salzillo went on. “If you have not as yet purchased tickets, please do so as soon as possible; we need to have an accurate account as far as the meals are concerned.”

In keeping with tradition, the Panthers annual awards affair will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at famed Wright’s Farm Restaurant that’s located at 84 Inman Road in Harrisville. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children age 10 and under.

Anyone who’d like to purchase tickets may do so by calling Matt Clements, the Panthers’ vice president, at (401) 437-8444.
