Johnston student at Carter School celebrates prom

The Carter School at Meeting Street held its annual prom on Thursday, May 25, at the Roger Williams Park Casino. Approximately 20 Carter School students participated in the rite of passage for high school students at the “To the Moon and Back” themed party, including Lesly Zepeda of Johnston. The event featured a DJ, dancing, food and with students from La Salle Academy’s Best Buddies Program.

Best Buddies is dedicated to establishing one-to-one friendships between La Salle students and The Carter School at Meeting Street students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Through these friendships, La Salle students learn firsthand about the power of inclusion and acceptance.  Club members travel to Meeting Street every Wednesday and participate in various activities with their buddies. 

The Carter School, Meeting Street’s middle and high school program for students with special needs, features an innovative approach to education that extends far beyond the classroom door. Its programs support education, vocational opportunities, and recreational and social activities tailored to each student's specific interests and abilities.
