The Matt Clements era of Johnston Youth Football will begin this weekend with registration for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 who want to participate on one of the state’s top football and cheerleading programs.

“It seems like last week when we wrapped up the 2018 season with our awards banquet,” Clements, who succeeds Gary Salzillo at the Johnston Youth Panthers helm, was saying Tuesday. “Time flies by; but we’re ready for what everyone hopes will be our program’s best year ever.”

Like Salzillo, Clements also coaches in the highly-successful boys’ football program which also boasts about its top-notch and national award winning cheerleading programs.

With that, Clements announced that this weekend’s football and cheerleading registrations will begin tonight and continue through Saturday at Northeast Auto Body – which Salzillo owns and operates – at 775 Hartford Avenue in Johnston.

Clements said tonight’s sign-up session will run for only two hours – from 6 to 8 p.m. and the Panthers president also related “people can also register online at Johnstonfootball.com 24 hours a day.

Another two-hour registration will be held tomorrow night – Friday, April 26 – at Northeast Auto Body from 6 to 8 o’clock.

Saturday, Johnston Youth Football and Cheer officials will be at Northeast Auto Body from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and registration.

Kids ages 5 to 13 are eligible to play for the Johnston Youth Panthers, who are proud members of the American Youth Football group and play in the Blackstone Valley Division that includes programs based in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.

The cheerleading program is for kids ages 5 to 14 and the squads, which rank among the best dressed in the AYF’s Blackstone Valley Division as are the Youth Panthers, participate with the grid teams as well as the season ending competition.

Football player registrations are priced at $165 per player, $145 for cheerleaders and $135 for the highly-popular flag football division. Clements said there are discounts for multiple siblings from a family.

People who’d like further information about the highly-regarded youth program should also go online at Johnstonfootball.com.
