A man faces multiple charges after allegedly brandishing a firearm during an argument.
Angel Rios, 34, of 45 Dorman Ave. in North Providence, was arrested and charged with felony counts of carrying a dangerous weapon/substance when committing a crime of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon or substance, carrying a pistol without a license or permit, and possession of a Schedule IV substance.
He also faces misdemeanor counts of simple assault or battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and possessing a prohibited weapon other than a firearm. He was additionally taken into custody on a district court bench warrant.
Patrolman Derrick Palazzo responded to the Gulf gas station at 1889 Plainfield St. at approximately 7 p.m. on May 25 following a report of a man brandishing a firearm during an ongoing argument with a woman.
Upon arrival at the scene, Palazzo observed a woman and a man later identified as Rios engaged in an argument. Rios was “holding a small silver object in his right hand,” according to the patrolman’s narrative report.
Palazzo writes that he drew his weapon and ordered Rios to show his hands and get down on his knees. Rios complied and was handcuffed, at which point the patrolman reports a silver revolver with a brown wooden handle was discovered in his waistband.
Palazzo reports Rios “began to violently kick me” and caused a disturbance, and was eventually subdued and placed into a cruiser.
During processing, Palazzo reports Rios was found to be in possession of a small cellophane baggy containing white pills later found to be the prescription drug Xanax.
A town man has been charged with punching and attempting to stab another man.
Raymond S. Baccaire, 43, of 260 George Waterman Road, Apt. 102, in Johnston, was arrested May 25 on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon or substance and a misdemeanor charge disorderly conduct.
In a narrative report, Patrolman Adam M. Parkinson states he responded to Rhode Island Hospital shortly before 11 a.m. on May 23 in reference to a reported assault several days earlier.
The victim – described as a “former acquaintance” of Baccaire – is said to have told police he encountered Baccaire while visiting his former place of employment on the evening of May 19.
Baccaire is alleged to have confronted the victim in a “belligerent manner,” accusing the victim of disparaging his reputation. Baccaire is then alleged to have pulled and waved a switchblade knife, used a racial epithet toward the victim.
According to Parkinson’s report, Baccaire then allegedly lunged at the victim with the knife and threw a punch with his right hand that struck the victim in the left side of the jaw. The victim is said to have retreated with responding physically.
