JHS students ready to get active for Hoops for Heart

Posted

Next Tuesday, Feb. 11, Johnston High School students will be getting healthy in honor of Hoops for Hearts.

Students who made a donation to the American Heart Association will gather in the gym and have the opportunity to get active through a variety of sports and games run by the school’s Students Against Destructive Decisions, or SADD, organization.

Members of the club will be supplying students with nutritious options such as apples, oranges and bananas so they can have an alternative to typically unhealthy snacks. Over the course of the three-hour event, games like volleyball, basketball and musical chairs will provide students with a great chance to exercise during their day. The gym will also be equipped with jump ropes, hula hoops, and a DJ to amp up the action.

With heart disease being the leading cause of death in America, it’s important to instill healthy habits in kids from a young age.
