Jersey Mike's rolls in with new sub shop

It’s official: Mohegan Subs are now available in Johnston.

When famed Jersey Mike’s Subs recently opened its doors at the sparkling new Carpionato Complex at 1412 Atwood Avenue, people learned that the restaurant, which is famous for its fresh sliced, fresh-grilled subs, is actually owned and operated by Mohegan Holding Company, LLC.

“We are honored to partner with Jersey Mike’s to bring this location to the Johnston community,” said Jeannette Ziegler, Chief Operating Officer of Mohegan Holding Company that’s part of the famed Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. “We look forward to a long relationship with the Johnston area and supporting the remarkable work of the American Red Cross of Rhode Island through our grand opening fundraiser.”

That fundraiser, which Zielger announced at the official ribbon cutting of Jersey Mike’s, works like this: the location at 1412 Atwood Avenue will distribute 5,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub with a minimum $2 donation to the American Red Cross of Rhode Island. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible.

Perhaps that just one of the reasons why Mayor Joseph Polisena said, “This is truly a special day in Johnston; we’ve got another new business opening in Johnston and there’s certainly more to come thanks to the Mohegan Holding Company.”

Polisena then thanked Ziegler and the entire visiting team from Mohegan Holding Company that included Jason King, operations manager for Mohegan Subs, while also offering his sincerest congratulations to Jo-Ann Pellegrino of Citizens Bank who represented the American Red Cross of RI.

The Mayor also presented Ziegler with an Official Commendation on behalf of all the citizens of Johnston and declared “I am honored to extend sincere congratulations to you upon the opening of Jersey Mike’s here in Johnston. I would like to express the hope for success and best wishes, now and in the years to come.”

As Polisena has said whenever a new business opens in Johnston or an existing one expands, he emphasizes the importance of all businesses saying, “It’s the small business that drives our economic engine.”

John C. Gregory, President and CEO of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce that also had representation at the recent opening, said, “One of the best parts of my job is to attend an opening or ribbon cutting. The continued commercial and retail growth in Johnston is an economic engine for all Northern RI and the state as a whole.”

Mohegan Holding Company’s Jersey Mike’s Restaurants in Rhode Island plans to open additional locations in the future. Mohegan Holding Company includes interest in franchise restaurants, sustainable energy resources and manufacturing and office digital solutions.

Started in 1959, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide. This year, Jersey Mike’s was named the country’s fastest-growing growing Limited Service Chains and fastest-growing sandwich chain in 2017. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations have raised nearly $25-million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 1.5-millio free sub sand3iches to help numerous causes.
