It’s mind over matter for Johnston comedian

The Arctic Playhouse in West Warwick recently announced that they have signed Johnston comedy entertainer and mentalist Lon Cerel to perform his new show, “Mind Mysteries, Out of Your Mind.”

Cerel is embarking on his 40th year as a full-time Rhode Island based entertainer. Since graduating from Providence College in the 1970s, he spent time on the road opening for comedian Henny Youngman, performed at Warwick Mall for 38 consecutive years, and had the opportunity to work and explore nearly every possible venue throughout Rhode Island, including many performances at the Warwick Musical Theater and what is now the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Ten years ago, when Cerel was diagnosed with Stage 2 colon cancer, he never missed a show and is today completely cancer-free. It was during that period that Cerel created a one-man stage show, dealing with the untapped powers of the human mind, known as “mentalism.”

Using the techniques of a stage performer, along with the science and psychology that he learned at PC, the show has finally become a reality during the past year.

Scheduled for the first Friday of every month throughout 2017, his next appearance is slated for March 3 at 8 p.m. For more information visit
