Irving “Chub” H. Clement

Irving “Chub” H. Clement, of East Greenwich, master plumber, heating contractor, businessman and community leader, passed away on August 10, 2017, after a long but gracious struggle with dementia. He

was 86.

He was the husband of Florence (Flamand) Clement for 65 years and father to their four children: Lt. Col. Kevin Clement, retired US Army, and wife Maureen of Austin, Texas; Erin Clement; EG Police Lt. Brian Clement and wife Elizabeth; and Coleen Smith and husband Jeffrey, all of East Greenwich; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

“Chub” or “Chubby” was long active in the town he loved so well-- in Scouting, in Rotary, and both the Kentish Guards and Varnum Continental militias. He was past Commander of le Régiment Bourbonnais, l'Armée de Rochambeau. A graduate of Hope High School, class of 1949, he chaired earlier class reunions and continued on the reunion committee until last year. Chub was superintendent and general foreman for L. Procaccini Construction before establishing I H Clement Plumbing & Heating, which he and Florence ran successfully for 30 years.

A person of great faith, Chub was a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Clement Church in Warwick. He was a Knight of Columbus, most recently with St. Gregory the Great Church in Warwick. Throughout his life, Chub enjoyed involvement in sports, scouting and local community. He was passionate about life skills and friendships. He sponsored and mentored many Eagle Scouts and enjoyed adventures at Camp Yawgoog. Many will remember Chub for his enthusiasm, smile and quick wit often while sharing conversation along with his homemade Irish Soda Bread.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 17th at 10:00 a.m. at St Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial will be private. Calling hours: Wednesday, August 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.

The Clement Family takes comfort in the many stories and remembrances that continually arrive about their time with Chub throughout the years.
