The lobby of Heritage Ballet’s studio is abuzz with activity as leotard-clad dancers scurry to their respective classes. In one brightly lit room, owner and former professional dancer, Patricia Dubois is demonstrating some of the choreography of the classic ballet Esmerelda to a group of eager young dancers. With rapt attention, they imitate her moves with grace and poise – and a laser-like focus and concentration that are rare among teens.
In the next room, a less advanced group is watching as instructor Davide, who reigns from Italy, gently guides a ballet student through a challenging move. Although he has danced on stages throughout the world, he is just as comfortable here in front of a mirrored wall as he is in front of an audience of hundreds. These are but two of the many classes offered at Heritage Ballet to dancers of all ages and abilities, from an introduction to dance to more intermediate and advanced levels. Whether one is a would-be ballerina or serious student of dance, all who come to this welcoming studio share one thing in common; they simply love to DANCE!
Heritage Ballet offers a unique experience for ballet, jazz and creative dance students ages 3 years old through adulthood. What sets this studio apart is the caliber of its instructors, all of whom, like Davide, have danced in a professional company performing soloists and principal roles in ballets such as the “Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella” to name a few. They are as natural in front of a group of excited 5 year olds as they are on a stage because they have witnessed first-hand what dance can do to build self-confidence, discipline, determination, poise, flexibility and a true appreciation for the arts. Every class taught by these professionals is like having a “Master Class.”
Students at Heritage Ballet are introduced to the formal study of dance through age-appropriate skill development, creative expression, musicality and rhythm. While graduates from this studio have been accepted into some of the most prestigious dance programs in the country, many also come just to enjoy the pleasures and joys of artistic expression. This passion is visible in each powerful leap, each perfect pirouette and each graceful bow.
Finally, although Heritage Ballet does not participate in competitions, the studio does stage two full-length ballets each year such as, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake”, all performed in Woonsocket’s iconic “Stadium Theatre”. Students ages 7 and up, are invited to participate in these performances. Watch for upcoming auditions! All students from the school are also invited to showcase their progress in a “Culmination Performance” in June for family and friends.
