Governor has a ball during senior center visit

According to Tony Zompa, the executive director of Johnston’s award winning and nationally accredited Senior Center, September is National Senior Center Month. The event provides cities and towns with the opportunity to showcase their senior centers and promote a positive image of aging. This year’s theme is Senior Centers: Masters of Aging, as aging masterfully is a core ideal of what many older adults wish to achieve at senior centers. Through social activates and vast varieties of other programs, senior centers like Johnston’s continue to be the experts in their communities on aging. To kick off the month, Gov. Gina Raimondo and Mayor Joseph Polisena visited the Johnston Senior Center on Tuesday. There they spoke with dozens of constituents about health care concerns, politics, or reminisced about the past. Both the Governor and Mayor also took turns on the center’s professional bocce court, where each had a respectable performance. (Text and photos by Tim Forsberg)
