Giving Tuesday kicks off at Operation Stand Down

Lt. Governor Dan McKee teamed up with Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena, Cumberland Mayor Bill Murray, North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi and Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien to kick off Giving Tuesday at Operation Stand Down in Johnston. McKee and the mayors made donations to Operation Stand Down and encouraged Rhode Islanders to give back this holiday season.

"Giving back is a simple act that can be done in so many ways," said McKee. “This week, I'm proud to stand with municipals leaders in support of Operation Stand Down and their mission to serve Rhode Island's veterans. I'm also looking forward to joining the Community Angels in Providence later this month to give out toys at their annual holiday celebration. Giving Tuesday may be a one day event, but I challenge Rhode Islanders to find a way to contribute to our community throughout the holiday season."

"Operation Stand Down is Rhode Island's leading and largest non-profit provider of housing, employment and training for veterans," explained Erik Wallin, Executive Director of Operation Stand Down. "We're focused on giving our local veterans a hand up, not a hand out. All of the money we receive on Giving Tuesday, like it does throughout the course of the year, goes directly to helping our veterans."

Giving Tuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, kicks off the charitable season by supporting and encouraging giving and philanthropy.
