Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up five cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA Northeast’s May 14 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.90 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is three cents above the national average of $2.87. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 59 cents lower at $2.31 per gallon.
“The geopolitical tensions prompted by the White House decision to re-impose sanctions on Iran, combined with higher crude oil prices, growing global demand, shrinking supply, and the seasonal switchover to summer blend gasoline are all combining to drive up prices at the pump,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $2.69 to a high of $3.09. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up – every time.
