Food and fun aplenty at Forand cookout

The Johnston Housing Authority held a cookout last Thursday at the Aime J. Forand Housing Complex, and it was an overwhelming success.

In the middle of the activity was David aRusso, executive director of the JHA, who offered up freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs courtesy of cooks Domingo Araujo and Brandon Privitera. Lynne Cianci, Jessica Leyden, Valerie Goris and Ally Fellela dished out servings of sausage and peppers, macaroni and potato salad and potato chips.

And as Leyden, the JHA’s resident service coordinator, added: “Everyone love the day’s dessert … those Klondike bars.”

While aRusso and the JHA issued invitations to all residents, the highly active Forand Tenants Association joined in as well, offering mega raffles for gift cards to Stop & Shop, Price Rite and Shell gas stations.

“Good food, food fun and food people,” Bev Williams, the president of the Forand Tenants Association, offered during last week’s cookout. “This is always a huge hit with the residents here.”

Meanwhile, aRusso and the hard-working JHA staff will be at it again on July 11 when they host the annual Claiborne Pell Manor Summer Cookout for residents.
