First Student delivers Thanksgiving goods

Posted

Every year, Johnston First Student drivers and office staff along with the Johnston School Department monitors and aides hold a food drive around the holidays to help out families in need. Last year, they helped out the Early Childhood Center and this year they decided to help Thornton Elementary School. The company was informed there are approximately 36 families that needed help at the school.

With everyone’s help they were able to collect enough food and deliver the 10 boxes to the school this week. A driver also contributed 36 $10 gift cards to Stop & Shop to assist with the purchase of the turkey. Price Rite in Johnston also donated five $5 gift cards.

Deb Gannon is the school nurse at Thornton and is also in charge of the Thornton Community Food Bank. Deb was overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the food bank donations.

While everyone participated in the food drive, not everyone was able to make the delivery. Listed are the people who helped deliver, including Kim Rigney, Roxanne Raiche, Dan Hicks, Lisa Annicelli, Karen McCue, JoAnn Caruso, Rita Bell and Terri Borders.
