Fifth-graders celebrate academic milestone

Posted

The fifth-grade students at Winsor Hill recently held a year end celebration marking their transition to Ferri Middle School. Held at the high school’s auditorium on June 14, the celebration was a full production with music, dancing, dedications, a special student dance routine choreographed by one of the fifth-graders, a student video presentation, and a special teacher feature. Fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Susan DeConte served as the event’s director. The students tried out for specific parts for each music selection, which involved singing, dancing and performing. The performance was student centered and displayed the many hidden talents of the school’s fifth-graders.  Each year, teachers said they marvel at the talent that is displayed.

Brown Avenue Elementary also celebrated a fifth-grade promotion night outside of the school on Monday. The 52 fifth-graders put on a recorder performance that included singing that wowed the crowd. The ceremony included a presentation of certificates, songs, poems, and words of encouragement as the students celebrated their last days in elementary school. The ceremony was capped with a special dedication of a stone plaque and a moving tribute in memory of Geriann Ysenbart, the school’s fourth-grade teacher, who passed away in September.
