Farm Visit brings smiles to Cherry Hill Manor

If you can’t visit the farm, Dawn Cordeiro will bring it to you, complete with live, furry animals.

That’s just what she did Tuesday afternoon, bringing smiles to many faces at Johnston’s Cherry Hill Manor.

“This is special,” said Tracey Arpin, the facility’s activities director. “Our people are really enjoying this day.”

Cordeiro, who owns and operates the company Farm Visits in Dighton, Mass., brought a pot-bellied pig named Dotty, a baby goat called Tootsie, and baby chicks and bunnies to the event.

“Those baby bunnies are always the biggest hit with our residents because they can easily hold them,” Arpin said. “It’s amazing to watch as their faces light up when the bunnies get handed to them.”

Arpin added: “We will now soon be getting some bunnies of our own and we’ll keep them right here at the facility, and that’s because our residents enjoy them so much. Animals really bring people together, and even the residents that choose to stay in their rooms came down to the patio today to see the animals, and that made them happy, too.”

Almost as soon as Tuesday’s visit was complete and Cordeiro loaded her animals into the van, Arpin announced that on Thursday, July 21, the activities department will host another fun-filled event entitled “Party on the Patio.”

“We’ll have doughboys and disc jockey Eddy spinning our favorite tunes from 1:30 to 3:30 on the patio,” she said. “And that night we will begin our summer concert series with Luanne Dutra, and that will create more fun and smiles for our beloved residents.”
